Best Performance in the World

Well, my portfolio officially outperformed the top hedge fund in the world for 2009. Here is a quote about Appaloosa:

"With 117% returns in 2009, Appaloosa tops Bloomberg Markets' list of the best performing hedge funds, Renaissance Technologies' Medallion fund tops the list of most profitable hedge funds with over $1bn in profits."

And here is a photo of my results for 2009:

It Came True!

Big surprise...

GM finally went bankrupt.

Someone please explain to me why we bailed them out for so long again? Was it to give them enough time to figure out how to perform a smooth bankruptcy?

That's why we have lawyers and bankers... to figure out that stuff as quickly and efficiently as possible. It doesn't require 6 months of analysis.

Fail.

12,000 Jobs / 1,200 Dealerships

GM is closing 1,200 dealerships. 30,000 people are expected to lose their jobs.

Looks like the beginning of the restructuring.

Well Duh

That's what bankrupt companies do... how is this news?

Bankrupt companies screw everyone who held equity or debt with the firm by creating a "bad company" and then they just form a "good company" - it's not rocket science.

TC (Thompson Creek Metals Company)

TC is up 50.91% since I bought it two weeks ago, it's not hard to make the big bucks. Just go against the market.

GM Sucks

I keep reading news articles that say GM shares have hit their lowest point since 1933...

Not true.

$1.09 today is equivalent to about $0.07 back in 1933. Therefore, GM is trading at it's lowest level, period. Every day is a new low. The company is bankrupt. Done.

Big Shocker

Surprise surprise!

Another prediction on it's way...

Clifford S. Asness

This is America. We have a free enterprise system that has worked spectacularly for us for two hundred plus years. When it fails it fixes itself. Most importantly, it is not an owned lackey of the oval office to be scolded for disobedience by the President.

I am ready for my “personalized” tax rate now.

Clifford S. Asness is the Managing and Founding Principal of AQR Capital Management, LLC - he has written an open letter in response to Barack Obama's demand for hedge funds to "sacrifice" their client's money in order to bail out the UAW.

In my opinion, it's not harsh enough.

You can read the whole letter on The New York Times.

And that's even after a hefty drop today.
